The Child: Socialization in a Developmental Context: Attachment; Autonomy; Initiative; Self-esteem.
The Family: Socialization for High Self-esteem in Healthy Families: Goals, Values, and Culture; Childcare: An Extension of the Family; Discipline for High Self-esteem; Accepting Feelings; Problem Solving; Strokes and Affirmations: A Path to Self-esteem; Modeling and Teaching Sex Roles; Stress and Success in Family Life.
The Community: Socialization in the Community Context: Community Resources; Socializing Agents; Social Policy Issues.

EC Child, Family and Community
14 Hours - 3 semester units
80 Practicum Hours
Philosophy and rationale for parent involvement in group care and education is examined. The child is discussed within the context of the family and the community. Issues of attachment, and autonomy and initiative are discussed. An understanding of the goals, values and culture of the children in the Montessori environment are discussed. Issues of gender and stress in family life are further areas of discussion. Community resources are developed by the participants.
