EC Early Childhood Assistant - Curriculum
The Montessori Early Childhood Assistant Teacher Course is designed to orient the new Montessori assistant teacher to the Montessori classroom, and to provide the assistant teacher with the minimum six (6) early childhood education units required by Community Care Licensing.*
Topics:
Montessori Philosophy - the Nature of the Child,
the Role of the Adult, and the Prepared Environment
Prepared Environment – Health and Safety Issues,
Clean, Orderly and Complete Environment
Nature of the Child – Sensitive Period for Order Requires
Ground Rules, Respectful Group Time and Orderly Transitions.
Need for Movement Requires Support for Purposeful Movement.
Role of the Adult – Observe and Overview the Classroom,
Prepare the Environment to Meet the Needs of the Child.
Relationship to the Community – Confidentiality, Professionalism,
Communication with the Family.
- Community Care Licensing allows a 1:12 teacher to child ratio for an assistant teacher that has completed a minimum of six (6) units and is continually enrolled in a minimum of two (2) units until the required twelve units are complete. Twelve (12) units are required with at least three (3) units in child development, six (6) units in curriculum, and one (1) unit in child, family and community
