Overview of Head Preschool Teacher Position
The San Francisco School, a co-educational, independent Pre-K through 8th grade with a commitment to a multicultural community, is seeking applicants for a Head Preschool Teacher position. The San Francisco School Preschool program incorporates a Montessori environment and activities with the latest educational thinking into a comprehensive early childhood program.
The Head Teacher works as a member of a team (one other Head Teacher and 3 Teachers) in a preschool program for 37 students. The Head Teacher plans and manages the classroom environment; works with children on academic, social and emotional growth; tracks and maintains records for each child; provides for communication with parents; trains and supervises teachers and assistants; participates in the admissions process; and generally shares the full responsibility for the classroom program with a co-Head Teacher. The Head Teacher also works in cooperation with all San Francisco School teachers in offering a comprehensive educational program that attends to the developmental needs of children, from preschool through Middle School. All teachers also come together on a regular basis to examine student work, discuss best teaching practices, and hone professional skills.
Qualifications sought
We seek a talented early childhood educator who can nurture and inspire children. Cultural competence and the ability to work collaboratively in a teaching team are essential. Candidates must be knowledgeable about the Montessori approach and other current methodologies, have successful preschool or kindergarten teaching experience, and exhibit excellent communication skills. Candidates should be student-centered, practiced in differentiated instruction and skilled at attending to the development of the whole child. Early childhood education training is required. A teaching credential or a related MA degree and three years of successful work as a teacher are recommended.

Hours: 8:15-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with afternoon and/or evening meetings, committees, parent education, and assessments occurring several times a month.
