42 Hours - 3 semester units

Philosophy and rationale of the curriculum area of mathematics are introduced. Montessori materials that aid in the development of mathematical concepts/skills are introduced. In particular, the Montessori materials introduce numeration, linear counting, the decimal system and their operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, memorization of the operation facts, and fractions. Opportunities for supervised practice with the Montessori mathematics materials occur at each class session.
